As I find myself traveling a lot these days, e books are really advantageous for me to buy. For flying, I could usually bring one or two books with me on the plane. But why do that now when I can bring my iPad. It easily holds my entire e book collection which is quite small now (about 30 books and 20 or so magazines). But still, imagine lugging that collection around the world as small as it is.
I remember my great professor, Dr. Dell Johnson from PCC. When we worked together at ACE I helped him move his vast library (along with several other hard workers) into his new office in the ACE building. He had close to 5 or 6 thousand volumes if I can remember. It could even be more than that. If you don't know what 6 thousand books looks like, it's basically a small library. He had been collecting books, mostly on Christianity and theology for decades. In order for us to move all those books from the truck to his new office, we had to carry dozens upon dozens of boxes and then unload them on the shelves. Needless to say, even with all the help it took several hours.
Now, the funny thing is, I can carry the same 5 or 6 thousand volumes in my iPad which weighs only 1 1/2 pounds. I can take them with me anywhere! For me this is a huge plus. No matter where I am, my full collection of books travels with me. No need to hire 9 or 10 guys to unload a tractor trailer and set aside several hours of backbreaking work to accommodate my personal library. No offense to Dr. Johnson. It was actually a pleasure to help him and actually be able to see his amazing collection of books. I just wouldn't want to do it twice.
